T7 Heads To A Deserving Home Today
John Woodman
Thanks to Frank Heald and the Board of Rossall School today saw an impressive lineup of heavy lifting and haulage equipment lined up at the Trust's Wyre Dock yard - eager to prepare the FHLT Trailer Car T7 for its transfer to Rossall School. Blessed by fine weather and the experienced help from John Houghton of the Rigby Road Engineering Shop courtesy of BTS - the move involved lifting the tram from its location inside the yard, fortuitously adjacent to the outer fence line - and lowering the car onto the familiar low load special unit of Scott's Haulage from Alfreton.
This was the first time the Trust's trams had been subjected to a crane lift and seemingly was handled without any difficulty - removing the painstaking work of preparing a track ramp to load the tram onto the low loader. This time the writer and Colin MacLeod were mere spectators - joined by Andy Mitchell (an 'old boy' of Rossall School) and an ever present photographer to record the move for the School's archives. The latter contributor being particularly welcome as the writer's camera battery faded just before the crane lift - great timing.
Trailer Car T7 awaits attention prior to lifting preparations which will see the unit lifted over the adjacent fencing onto the parked trailer of Scotts. Both Photos : John Woodman
Trailer T7 waits for preparations to lift if over the adjacent fence on to Scotts low loader.
The great lift begins with Trailer T7 appearing for its short journey to Rossall School.
These images taken by John Woodman before his camera battery went dead. More photos to follow (and better quality!).
