New Look For Talbot Road

John Woodman

The former Wilko site is now totally fenced off from Taibot Road and abhorrent concrete structure is just a memory. Temporary wooden siding has taken its place whilst behind steelwork for the new hotel is being erected (amongst other assets).

Below the scissors track crossing is already being embedded on the concrete underlay to create the new tram terminus for the North Station service.

Further down Talbot Road the imposing anchor frontage of the new hotel is already giving off a new and positive impression. At least its a big improvement on the morbid black box created next to the classic 1930s Woolworth's building on the promenade. North Station bound trams will pass alongside on the left (much as Layton service trams followed the same path until 1936.)
