More From Porto

John Woodman

Courtesy of my daughter's friend visiting Porto last week some further images from the excellent tram museum display featuring early cars from that city's wonderful tramway system. The display is sited within a former power station building alongside the riverfront heritage service which uses examples from the first generation tramway running into the city centre.

Below : A lineup of trams inside the depot exhibition complete with original overhead poles and cobbled floor surface. The leading car has a 'Providence Fender' on its front of a design originating in the USA during the early years of urban electric tram operation.

Below : An impressive lineup of the first electric trams with what seems to be an original horse car rebodied for electric use. Qualified comments welcome.

Below : elements of the former Power Station infrastructure including a supervisors cabin in situ.

Below : A specialist trailer which was used to transport fish to the city market and traders

All Images courtesy of Jessica Meyer-Rassow and her friend visiting Oporto in October.
