Back In Time - 1960
John Woodman
Three of the many photos I took in teenage years following changes and developments of Blackpool's Corporation buses and trams prior to 1963 when I finished school at Highfurlong for a nine year stint with the Army in Germany and Northern Ireland.
Below : Immaculate Balloon car 252 on a depot working from Marton to Talbot Square along treelined Whitegate Drive at Hornby Road traffic lights. An inbound Marton service car in the lead towards Devonshire Square. Photo : John Woodman
Below : one the two illuminated Standard cars 158 and 159 heading along the short street running track behind the Metropole, complete with extruded window balconies and shop blinds over the street facing ground level retail units. A brave driver overtakes the tram just before the blind curve north to Cocker Street. Photo : John Woodman
Below : the two open top TD5 conversions prepare to enter service complete with finely detailed advertising and pristine bodywork - seen here at Rigby Road with the tram traverser pit and work shops to the right. The gasometer across Rigby Road from the transport site dominates the scene. Photo John Woodman
