Palmyra & Blackpool Corporation Bus

Palmyra's heritage was once visited by Blackpool Corporation Transport Bus 298 in its epic journey to Pakistan. It posed by the classic arch destroyed by ISIS - as seen here. A smaller scale replica of the arch has been erected for temporary display in Trafalgar Square this week before going to New York and later on - Dubai. The bus was driven and maintained by two former college students who purchased it from a Yorkshire scrap dealerin 1971 - one of the last of the centre entrance buses for which Blackpool was famous built locally by HV Burlingham on Leyland chassis. Ths bus made it all the way to Karachi - and returned to England. This amazing story is told in the forthcoming book 'Blackpool's Desert Bus'. Image Copyright : Bob Elves.
