Wyre residents tram travel - a resolution
Not quite the type of tram running from Fleetwood Ferry to Blackpool in 2016! But a look back in time - actually to 1944, when Fleetwood trams travelled both to North Station (as above) as well as further south along the promenade to the Pleasure Beach and Clifton Drive. No NoW cards in those days but plenty of copper coins for conductors. The tram is Number 176 for the benefit of purists - on a typical rainswept day at the Ferry tram stop. One positive outcome of the Budget debate this week by Lancashire County Council has been a decision to cover (or contribute to) the costs of travel on Blackpool's tram service by older residents in Wyre LA
The announcement was made on Thursday as part of very hard choices facing the
Council over the whole portfolio of services to Lancashire communities and residents. Implementation of this aspect of the budget approvals at County Hall
will take effect (probably) from the beginning of April and at long last Wyre Borough holders of NOW cards issued by that Local Authority will be valid on trams.
There is no statement or reference to the other issue bedevilling the northern part
of the tramway - ie. the County Council's net contribution to upkeep of tramway infrastructure within Lancashire boundary (from the Orion curve in Cleveleys to Fleetwood Ferry).
